Our first rest day in Santiago de Compostela. We are now tourists as we watch the hundreds of pilgrims walk into the city.
We are staying in a small one-star pension (40 euros with bathroom) close to the cathedral. It was advertised as we walked along the route. We could have stayed at any number of more upmarket hotels but this perfect. Modern, simple and convenient. Pension Santa Cristina.
Only about 6 rooms around a neat courtyard.
A Camino reminder, even in the bathroom.
Our pension is next to the church of St Martin. One of the many churches and chapels in the
vicinity.
We walked through an open door, listening to an organ playing, and found ourselves in the
Chapel of St Nicolas de Bari.
A beautiful fresco painted on the chapel door.
An early morning stroll through the tiny streets. A visit to the post office to collect a box of
gear Mark sent from San Sebastián and a little shopping time for me.
More modern music in another plaza.
Away from the thousands of tourists we found a quiet square near our pension with a tiny cafe.
We were greeted by the chef and her husband/waiter, Pepe. "Pepe, Pepe, pronto, pronto!"
A dynamic duo. Such a lovely experience I think we'll go back tomorrow - mañana.
A juggling busker drawing the crowds around St Martin's.
Such an enthusiastic act. After ever act he would run up and embrace one of the
unsuspecting audience members. Hilarious.
