AUGUST 2015 : EASTERN EUROPE : European Peace Walk : Day 10 : Szentpeterfa, Hungary - Orimagyarosd, Hungary (32 kms - 9 hours)

Distance travelled : 222 kms

A long day of walking, in cool conditions, flat soft paths with good signage. Great stop for lunch.

Local cafe opened at 5.30am for us. Full breakfast - including eggs ( and enough for lunch)
         for 3 euros.

Memorial to war dead, including 3 Russian soldiers and a Jewish family removed from
           the village in WW2.

            Leaving Sventpeterfa.

                                                      Kommet und Trinket!

Fields and villages in the distance.

                                         Delicious apples for foraging..

A reflection of our happy group...

                 Holiday cottages.

Walking in and out of Hungarian and Austrian villages

           First stop in Luising, Austria.

The Iron Curtain border region has now been designated by the Germans as a green zone to
regenerate plant, animal and bird life. Lovely turnaround for an area with such a sad history.

            Back on the trail

Mark has named this the Hungarian Emperor butterfly....we know not what it is.

Pizza and chicken salad for lunch. ... And several refreshing drinks. Great stop.
Also it was the pick-up for blister-weary walkers...only another 12 kms.
Some of us off -loaded our packs as well. What a sensible idea that was!

Our destination...after a long, long slog on road, through towns, woods, uneven ground, mud..

Our hostess is Janet, who has lived in Sydney. So hospitable and generous.
The Sunshine Camp, the original arrangement, is full of children on a holiday program.
Local ladies will provide our meal. Lots of foot soaking and cold refreshments tonight!

For the last few nights Emma and I have ordered the vegetarian option, hoping to get more
vegetables but we have been given fish! The standard meal has been schnitzel and fries.

Hello all! Very impressed with your efforts today.

Sorry Mark, but I need to correct you on your butterfly identification.....

You did not photograph a Hungarian Emperor. It was a Red Admiral of the family Nymphalide.

Just thought you would like to know that!!!! hahaha!!!
