AUGUST 2015 : EASTERN EUROPE : European Peace Walk : Day 19 : Ljubljana and Lake Bled

Distance travelled : 495 kms       

         

Today we had a rest day with a shuttle bus organised for us to go to Lake Bled. (14.50 euros return).
The temperatures are rising with another heatwave expected over the next few days. Today it was 30 and perfect.

          Unexpected fog in Ljubljana this morning.

                            
        
                                We found a cafe open at 7.30am with smooth jazz.

         

          Hannah joined us. She has bought a bike and cycling loosely to the EPW schedule.

  At 9.15am the shuttle arrived and drove us north for 45 mins to Lake Bled nearly to the Austrian alps.

           We took a boat out to the chapel on the island.

         

           Glorious day with spectacular views of the lake.


         

            The small castle perched high above the lake.


        

         Delicious salad lunch at a lakeside restaurant.


        

           Including white wine spritzer and the famous Lake Bled vanilla cream cake.

                                         
                                                        Jason and Emma hired bikes.

                                       

           They rode around the lake and then took a 5 km journey to a fabulous gorge nearby.


                                            

     Ros, Kumi, Hannah and Thelma took the lift up to catch a luge down a steep embankment.


         

         Meanwhile I spent the afternoon swimming in the lake and Mark wandered along the shore.

           

     Dinner at a fabulous Indian restaurant by the river and introducing our newest walking partner, Sue,
     from Bondi, who has had a few rest days but will continue with us, Group 14.

            Nearly full moon as Ljubljana rocks with the same enthusiasm as Spanish cities.

Wow! Great photos of a wonderful part of the world. Hope you enjoyed your rest day at Ljubljana and the lake - seems like a perfect way to overcome the hardships of a few hundred kilometres of hard walking!
