AUGUST 2015 : SPAIN : Santiago de Compostela

Early morning in Santiago. Pelegrinos start arriving...

Bar in one of the main squares

           Juice, coffee and wholemeal croissants

Hair cut, 11.50 euros. Pedicure, 20 euros.

Quiet spaces even in amongst the busy streets

Lots of life amongst the colonnades

The busy midday pilgrim service. And today we had the great privilege to see the botafumeiro,
the huge incense burner, after a beautiful sung mass.

The incense is put into the 80 kg botafumeiro. A 700 year-old tradition.

It swings high above the congregaton.

            The many priests process out.

Lunch at Pepe's again. Vegetable soup and pulpo (octopus).

A friendly Spanish family from Barcelona chatted with us during the meal.

Quintana Square. Lots of activity everywhere.

Gargoyles, sculptures on all the medieval churches.

Large park overlooking the old city.

             View from the park.

             Dinner at a local cafe.

Music in St Martin's lulling us to sleep.
