AUGUST 2015 : EASTERN EUROPE : European Peace Walk : Day 12 : Szentgyorgyvolgy, Hungary - Lenti, Hungary (23 kms - 6 hours)

Distance travelled : 268 kms

A day full of adventure and creative waymarking. Emma and Jason both have GPS on their phone and guide us if the directions are ambiguous. It was cool this morning, after a night of light showers and it was overcast all day. Today is a Hungarian national holiday so we knew from the outset the villages would be quiet and most shops/ cafes would be closed.

We arranged for our breakfast (salami rolls) to be left in a fridge for our collection. We left at 6.20am.

           We walked along fallow fields.

Then into the forest where the logging trucks swayed over muddy surfaces.

Suddenly we crossed from Hungary into Slovenia.

Out of the forest and into the sleepy Slovenian town of Kobilje.

We followed the Slovenian Camino route for several kilometres. Then we were back in
           Hungary.

Then a surprise turn into the cornfields with next to no track width. All we could think of was how
yesterday's group managed pushing a pram.

Up close and personal in the cornfields. Amaizing!

           Rest stop by the river.

Entering Reznek there was a fabulous carving recounting the creation of Hungary. The magical stag,
eludes hunters and leads them to the promised land of what became Hungary.

10/10 Resznek. An open cafe even on a national holiday.

Some of the patrons came out to check us out.

           Into the forest...glorious green hues.

           Some lost property.

            Huge fungi.

          Re-grouping and checking directions.

             Grey skies and storm clouds.

Our final test today was the Hungarian Tile Torture. 2 kilometres of tiles, guaranteed to unsettled any toe that has not suffered blisters so far!

Our destination, Hotel Denis in the thermal spa town of Lenti. We have double rooms with beds, towels, ensuites...and12 Hungarian channels on the TV. Luxury! 23 euros each.

An excellent restaurant downstairs, open despite the holiday, with very friendly staff.
