AUGUST 2019 : IRELAND : DAY 5 : Mulranny - Claremorris - Kerrykeel near Letterkenny, Donegal

An artist’s impression of Mulranny

Today was a 6 km walk from Mulranny towards Achil Island

We set off from the old railway station.  Now a part of the hotel.

A misty, wet, humid morning but beautiful views

Wet weather gear required. We enjoyed the sculptures along the way.

Lots of tiny insectivorous plants on the path

Our destination today was a summer cafe/gallery

From there we drove 45 minutes to the Ballycroy National Park visitor’s centre. The National Park prides itself on protecting 11,000 hectares of blanket bog and remote mountainous terrain.

The visitor’s centre is situated on a large section of the protected blanket bog, showcasing remarkable plants and fabulous 360o views.

Great cafe with a French chef and his cakes and pastries. We recommend the very moist chocolate hazelnut tart.

From here we were driven to Claremorris to catch a bus up north to Maugie’s sister, Dolores and her husband, Joe. A three hour trip.

Now we are in Kerrykeel for the weekend, ready to further explore the delights of Donegal.
