AUGUST 2019 : IRELAND : DAY 12 : Belfast

The Ramada is proving to be very convenient and more advantageous than expected with full breakfast for £7.50 and a few interesting features in our room.

Rain today. Unfortunately my waterproof pants will not zip up due to a mysterious weight gain. I’ve shared the following card with many friends and believe that socks could be a problem.

An early dash to a laundromat to dry all our washing, which we realise, with this inclement weather, will not dry quickly enough. We enjoyed all the murals along the way.

Walking towards the river

Lots of Game of Thrones (GOT) memorabilia around the city

The impressive Titanic Museum

Excellent audiovisual displays throughout the museum. Unfortunately we had to share with the tourist hordes.

Ironically, the words on the Statue of Liberty welcoming immigrants in the early 1900s. How attitudes have changed recently.

Returning across the river - giant seagulls, iconic salmon sculpture and traditional Irish pubs.

The hotel is in the  Cathedral Quarter with a range of restaurants. Pizza for lunch.

We walked to City Hall to see the Titanic memorial. A poignant statue and plaque, information boards and the list of the casualties, mainly from the third class section of the ship.

We had also been told of a moving memorial in Mayo for fourteen neighbours and friends on the Titanic seeking a new life in America.

We had a few laughs along the way, as well, enjoying the Irish sense of humour

The signature of a burger cafe

Or this...

The Cathedral Quarter boasts many bars, cafes and restaurants. We joined the after work crowd in Exchange Place, listening to music and enjoying a drink in the welcome sunshine.

Dinner at a nearby restaurant, priding themselves on organic and high quality produce, Grill on Hill Street. We agreed to a small table for two near the kitchen as they were particularly busy tonight.

After all our eating today the weight gain is obviously not the socks, as I’d hoped. A new regime tomorrow..
