AUGUST 2019 : IRELAND : DAY 2 : Galway

Heavy rain over night. We are staying on the outskirts of Galway in Menlo, with a farm paddocks from our window.

There is a strong Galway tradition about dipping in the sea, all year around. Black rock is a popular dipping spot. Miriam and I joined the enthusiastic crowds today. Water was about 19oC - so very reasonable.

Post-swim coffee part of the daily routine

Busy, colourful Galway

Lunch at Mac Cambridge’s. My first seafood chowder for the holiday! And good wifi. Unfortunately wifi will be rare for the next fortnight.

Padraic O Conaire, Galway poet and playwright

Our first pint..a respite from the wet weather!

Freshly shelled peas for dinner

Tomorrow we set off for an adventure in County Mayo.
