Breakfast in San Fernando before heading north to the small town of Sanlúcar. Sergio took us to a famous churros cafe.
To SANLUCAR - a 20 min drive north. It is a town whose economy is based on its bodegas, which produce the sherry- type wine, Manzanilla. It developed in the 18th century with trade to the Americas. Now, it is on the tourist circuit, promoting its products.
The main plaza
As the bodegas became well-known in the eighteenth and nineteenth century wealthy Spaniards began to spend time in the area for their vacations. Attractive apartments and hotels were built to accommodate them.
Sergio organised for us to go on a bodega tour. We went to La Gitana (gypsy) bodega, an eighth generation family concern.
Shady entry
Several glasses to sample on the tour
Lots of interest in the tour group
A little rest to recover
An extensive operation
Prawn pancakes for lunch
