Our final day in Córdoba. We investigated the north-west section of the town, devising a personal walking tour. We had an English breakfast with fresh orange juice and coffee at a traditional cafe for about 7€ each. Nearby was the remains of a 1st century Roman temple. The extensive mosaics have been successfully transported to the alcazar, which we visited yesterday.
The large missionary church of San Paula, opposite the excavation site.
An early insignia of Córdoba.
Then we discovered Plaza Corredera - a complete surprise.
Some market stalls
Decorative arches
A substantial market - vegetables, meats and fish
Then we walked towards the Capuchin monastery and its lush patio or courtyard.
The main boulevard in Córdoba
The Victoria food market, similar to the San Miguel markets in Madrid.
We sampled some oysters as we made our way home.
Walking along the city wall. The walls originally bordered the Jewish quarter and ran as far as the Arab section of the city to the Alcazar. The crumbling walls were replaced by the Christian rulers in the fifteenth century.
A siesta this afternoon, respite from 35o afternoon heat. Then back to Plaza de las Tendillas for a simple meal. Lots of activity. We are finding the restaurants and cafes very reasonably priced.
A full moon over the centre of the Plaza. Still 29o at 9pm.
