An early start this morning for those who wanted to do a 4 hour gorge walk. We walked by a beautiful hotel abandoned because it had hit by rockfalls.
We began the climb, thankfully in the cool of the morning
The spectacular view back
Goats grazing high on the cliffs
Up at the top of the ridge we were met by a Berber nomadic woman heading down the path for supplies or water
We visited a Berber nomad’s summer camp, which has been established for 15 years
Areas dug out and supported by rocks for cool storage and respite from the heat...with one of the delightful sons
A rest stop in the main tent
Thyme tea
Another interested onlooker
An injured goat
The campsite as we leave
The rocky descent... a group following us down
First view of the village
Fascinating geology
We near the oasis town
Life along the river
Delicious flavours wafting from tagines as we approach...a lovely surprise - it was our lunch!
A traditional Berber meal in a family home
Then off through the ksar’s alleyways.
To a women’s co-operative who make the most amazing carpets.. originally nomadic they now live in the village officially registered and supported by the Moroccan government.
A demonstration of carding
Yes, a successful purchase. Keep smiling, women don’t cry, happy wife, happy life.
The Berber freedom flag
Out through the main gate
Into the palmery along the river
Pomegranates
Hassan searching for ripe pomegranates
Donkeys carrying fruit
Small birds
A spotty frog
Cranes
A swim and meal at the hotel.
