Today we drove 20 minutes south of San Fernando to the seaside town of Sancti Petri.
Our destination was the ancient island fortress at the mouth of the river.
Sancti Petri is a fishing village and provides kayaks, boats, SUPs for tourists.
A boat ride to the island.
A brief tour by one of the young men from the boat hire. It dates back to several thousand BC including being the site for a Roman temple and used for surveillance to protect Cadiz against Napoleon and the pirate ships.
Lunch at a traditional restaurant
What should we have?
We chose Dorado.
The happy customers
Rather than catch a bus home we organised with the boat company to drop us on the other side of the river.
And we walked along the beach for 6kms until we reached San Fernando. These bunkers were from the Spanish Civil War.
A sandpiper
A welcome swim at the end of our walk.
