OCTOBER 2017 : MOROCCO : A day in the life of Tijzha village : DAY 11

Early morning looking over the valley from the Riad

8 am start for morning walk

Through the village

Past the only shop. We met the very friendly Hassan on our return journey.

Corn drying

Huge rock which had been dislodged from the cliffs above. The village encompasses several settlements throughout the valley.

The village overlooks the river. The river floods from time to time destroying the crops and garden beds.

A noisy family group of women off to pick fruit and tend their agricultural plot.

Farmers ploughing as generations have done

Rich land, fertilised with manure

Women high up the stony cliff collecting wood

A passenger in one of the mule saddle bags

Juniper trees

Prickly pear - used as hedges and the fruit is popular for eating

We walked up towards the source of the river

Only a few birds

The return trip in the heat

Back through the village

This mule resting after a morning’s work

After lunch, a treat - a steam treatment including a thorough body scrubbing. A new venture in the village.

Here is the shy Fatima and her assistant ready for battle with our bodies.

Simple facilities. A heated floor, hot water, Argan soap and plenty of muscle power

The team totally exfoliated and stretched from a vigorous work out

Sparkling...

Walk back to the Riad, and discovered this charming entrance.

Peaceful afternoon, spaghetti for dinner and a stunning night sky.
