OCTOBER 2018 : ITALY : VIA DI FRANCESCO : DAY 21 : Spoleto - Ferentillo - train and bus

Stage 19 in our guidebook is rated HARD and there is little accommodation and facilities along the way. I had booked accommodation in Ferentillo, which was the closest I could find, which meant an even longer day. So we decided to combine Stages 19 and 20. We investigated bus travel but the only connecting buses from Spoleto left at 6.45 am. Rome2rio also suggested a train/bus option-  regular trains to Terni, the provincial capital, and then hourly buses to the small town of Ferentillo.
So we caught the 10.58am train to Terni and then a 11.45am bus to Ferentillo.

We will have to do some backtracking tomorrow through Arrone as the bus took us on a rather circuitous route, from the south.

Breakfast in Spoleto

We walked down through the streets and alleyways admiring the different architecture and views

Lower Spoleto, the commercial hub

Leaving the old town with the Fortress Rocca Albornoz behind us

A photo of the fortress and aqueduct as a fabulous backdrop for festivities

Spoleto train station. Just reminds me of a scene from The Godfather

Time for coffee at the station bar/cafe

Arrival in Terni

Bus station across the road from the train station

Rocky terrain, consoling us that we might have avoided some steep climbs today

Ferentillo

And who should we meet but Hans and Ingelise still continuing their travels, although the rest of the Danish contingent have returned home.

Our accommodation tonight is at a reception centre, Casa Piermarini, in attractive grounds. (€62)

They have 2 apartments. We are very pleased to be staying in one of them.

Neat and country-style decor

We had no idea what to expect for dinner, especially a 5 star restaurant.

Mark’s 4 course entree - €11 - taster plates of local specialties

Beans and truffles

Goat’s cheese

Tempura vegetables

Meats

Then he had pork loin.

I had crispy lamb shoulder for my main..so tender.
One of the popular dishes on the menu was a soft boiled egg with truffle. Eaten by dipping in toasted bread.

The restaurant was full by the time we left, very popular with the locals.

Stunning property.

Amazing accommodation. Mark certainly looks well & polishing off a 4 course entree as well as a main is confirmation!.... JulieJ
