Fine walking day. 23o.
Walking mainly on minor roads and tracks through farmland, forest trails and along the lake.
Our biggest challenge was climbing the 150m up stairways to the top of Marmore Waterfall.
We had breakfast about 8 in Ferentillo.
Ferentillo, on one side of the Nera River..with its own castle
And only 500m away on the other side of the Nera River is Precetto, with its own castle.
Interesting history between these two towns.
Good flat walking on minor roads and tracks
Farmhouses
Hilltop towns all along the valley. This is Arrone.
We stopped for coffee
An ‘ancient’ San Francesco monastery
Hilltop villages were the order of the day today
Walking along the river
Good straight path
First views of the Marmore Waterfall
Marmore Waterfall dates back to Roman times 271BC when the Romans diverted some of the waters of the Velino River over the cliffs at Marmore to drain the swamps of Rieti.
Climbing the steps. Our decision was to walk through the park (€6 each) to see the falls.
Today they were working. Various times during the day the falls are switched off and the water flow is directed to power-generating turbines.
From the top of the falls we could see our journey today
After lunch we walked along the lake
After a brief section along the highway we were taken up a forest track
Looking down on Piediluco
Then the guidebook took us along the lake shore of Piediluco
A quirky distraction along the way
Fishermen
Hotel Miralago (bed & breakfast €75)
Rowers training on the lake. The Italian team train here.
Dinner with Hans and Ingelise.
