Today we walked from Agriturismo Valdichiascio to Biscina, this dividing one section in half. It was a good decision as the second half had quite a lot of climbing on a beautifully warm day, about 25o
From the onset we knew it would be a fine day
Simple breakfast
German group
Dutch couple - Sebastian and Janet
Misty colours as we set off about 8.30
The autumn colours were vibrant
The German group set off
More sophisticated signs..and more of them
Small shrines, this one dedicated to Madonna Della Grazie
There was a larger monastery, Eremo di San Pietro, with a resident monk, welcoming pilgrims and showing them the 14th century frescoes.
Cattle properties
Crossing the sluiceway
Up the hill
Climbing higher to Biscina
Along the main road we found our accommodation
Reception not open until 4 - 3 hours to enjoy the sunshine, dry our clothes..
We sat with views over the working farm and views over Biscina Castle (14-16th century) which originally had a moat and drawbridge and the tower, still in situ, was essential for surveillance.
Our 2 bedroomed holiday apartment overlooks a pool.Dinner, bed and breakfast €50pp.
Dinner - set menu - with Bob from Alberta, Canada He had a frightening experience in the forest around Camaldoli when he encountered a family of wild boars, the piglets followed him on the trail as he tried to make a hasty retreat.
Tenuta di Biscina’s grape vines - just ready for harvesting.
Beautiful day - just the right balance.
