Ostensibly today was another rest day. Another 30km walk in rain. It was too long and possibly slippery for Mark’s knees. No buses on Sunday so our host at the hotel organised a taxi for us and we were able to transport two of the Danish group who were not up to the walk today (€45).We have been using the website, rome2rio, to get all our up-to-date transport information between stages.
Standard breakfast but the opportunity for toast was a lovely change
Our considerate taxi driver, who slowed down for Mark to take photos along the way
We caught sight of the Danish walkers - after 2 hours on the trail, walking into the rain
Scenic views of valley communities as we climbed to Pietralunga.
A small town with a tiny historic centre. This is the citadel tower with the church of Santa Maria behind it - closed for renovations at the moment.
Pietralunga was originally founded by the Umbrians, but was destroyed by the Goths in the 7th century and rebuilt in the 8th century when it became part of the Lombard region. More recently, it was the centre of the anti- Fascist resistance movement in WW2.
Many businesses are promoting the Via di Francesco
Alleyways near the tower
The old town
Creative artwork over power grates
Lunch at Locanda del Fiorucci - the oldest building in the town - as the weather deteriorated
View to a small amphitheatre and surrounding communities
Our hotel was down the main road - 300m - but on the route for tomorrow
Another lovely surprise - another country house, Locanda del Borgo (€66 a double room)
The reception area
Our amazing room
And private balcony
Dinner in the hotel restaurant. Home cooked fare - vegetable soup, pork loin and a frothy limoncello sorbet for dessert.
Another gem of a place. Highly recommended!

What a beautiful day. Toast, ah simple pleasures and being able to help the Danes would have been gratifying. Wonderful villages and scenery. Xx
Pietralunga is special
