SEPTEMBER 2018 : CROATIA : PRVIC LUKA : DAY 1 : Swimtrek

Today we had some coaching sessions, two swims and a visit to the other side of Prvic Luka.

Breakfast at 7 - a bit early for some

Cristina, part of the friendly staff at the Maestral.

The Swimtrek group ready for an early morning training session

We swam off a small pebbly beach near the port

Our only danger were sea urchins, which are very prevalent along the coast

Swimming out practising getting our bearings

9.30 we left on our boat for our first swim

Vasoline was applied to prevent chaffing

We were placed in 3 groups. I am in the yellow group. We swam along the coastline of Tijat.

Maugie and Dolores finishing out 1 and a half km swim

Then to the other side of Prvic Luka to another port, Sepurine, which we explored before lunch

An elated group after accomplishing another kilometre swim along the coastline

When we returned to our hotel,Tele, one of the Swimtrek instructors had short individual video presentation of us swimming (above and below the water) and gave us some directions on improving out strokes. Very enlightening about the technical state of swimming and how informed others were about modern practice.
Evening meals are not included in our deal so the group spread to various restaurants and cafes around the small village.

Tonight we walked 20 mins around a coastal path to a recommended restaurant, specialising in fish and Italian dishes.

A fabulous day with mixed results for the group. Some had initial fears of the cold, the salt, sea creatures or had issues with stamina but our instructors ensured that everyone finished the day feeling positive, dealing with their fears, giving them shorter distances to swim.
For me, the distances were well within my capabilities but I have a lot to work on technique which will improve my efficiency. And that’s only DAY 1 - what  will be achieved by Friday.
Tomorrow is our first island crossing!
