Leaving bright and early to avoid the crowds
We had decided to walk the lower lake system today
From the start it was a very impressive sight - large lakes bordered by massive Dolomite rock faces
Suddenly we realised that it was tourist central. The Park regularly hosts 11,000 visitors daily.
This was one of those days.
Impressive waterfalls
Small falls along the way
Excellent pathways - wooden board walks or soft earthen paths
Coffee and ice cream stop.Hundreds of people waiting for the ferry so we decided to walk the 6 kms around one lake.
We headed off, glad to be not walking snail’s pace with all the bus tours.
Temporary boardwalks over muddy stretches
The colours were so vibrant
More interesting fungi
Mark had some tricky sections to contend with
Autumn colours
At last after nearly two hours we located the next ferry wharf to return us to the entrance, after clocking up 12kms in beautiful sunshine.
After a quick lunch Mark and I made a hasty retreat to the shuttle bus.
Farewell to our Irish friends after a fabulous week.
Bus from Plitvice to Split was 5 hours but with excellent wifi the whole way.

PS We are staying at Neno’s Apartments near the port and just outside the walls of Diocletian’s Palace.
We found a restaurant in the walls and had a delicious meal. Mark had ox tongue and I had snails.
We walked around the ancient Palace - now apartments, restaurants, shops eating gelatos.
A singer was entertaining diners and tourists in this courtyard. Still 25o at 10pm.
And in daylight
