AUGUST 2016 : SPAIN : A Coruña

Our destination today was A Coruña, a provincial city in Galicia. A week for Mark to rest and for us to get to know another town. Only an hour from Santiago and on the coast with an interesting history.

Leaving Muxia... 2 1/2 hours on the bus to Santiago then an immediate connection to A Coruña.

Our hotel on the River Mero. A bit further out than expected but we have already worked out the buses and we can be in the centre of town in 20 mins.

A comfortable room, wifi and the Olympics.

We had hoped to catch the Tall Ships race but unfortunately that finished yesterday.

The comic exhibition - finished yesterday. Great graphics on the outside of the gallery.

Tall buildings. The home of Zara. Picasso's birthplace and early stomping ground.

Graceful buildings along the port.

Lots of small restaurants in the Colonades.

Some beautifully preservered architecture.

Cruise liners, fishing vessels - all part of A Coruñas economy.

We know that this was a Roman port and Julius Caesar lived here for a year. It was under constant threat with Spain's warring neighbours throughout the centuries. We aim to find out much more in the coming week.
