AUGUST 2016 : SPAIN : CAMINO INGLÉS : DAY 3 : Pontedeume - Miño - 10 kms - 2 1/2 hours

Distance walked so far : 41 kms

Dramatic thunderstorm overnight. Oppressive heat. Riotous revelry of post concert youths echoing throughout the plaza. All in all not a great night's sleep.
It was short walk day today. There was mention in a blog that there could be steep descent so Mark opted to catch the bus. It was unfounded - excellent surfaces and gradients - so with the promise of another flat walk tomorrow, Mark is keen to try again.

Kilted walker orders a cafe con leche and a beer for breakfast.

Up the Calle Real, past the Bishop's house. Batolomé Rajoy, a notable priest, who became the Archbishop of Santiago from 1751-1772.

Past the steps of the Church of Santiago.

Climbing the steep streets out of Pontedueme.

There is a option to walk an extra 6 kms to visit the Romanesque 12th century Church of San Miguel de Breamo. Being a foggy morning and on my own I was reluctant to take the variant route. It certainly looks an exquisite building.

Into the fog.

The sweet smell of eucalyptus after the rain.

A couple from Perth greet Stewart from Scotland, heralded by the sound of bagpipes on his person.

Goats in the mist.

Grape vines

Another Australian couple, Brad and Julie from Wanniassa. Good company for much of the journey.

My Las Palmas friends off to Betanzos today.

Scenic path over the medieval bridge over the River Baxoi.

The free albergue in Miños, on the outskirts of town, where Mark and I planned to meet. 10 people staying tonight.

20 beds with basic facilities.

View out our window of the estuary.

Miños with harbour beaches...not at its best on a hazy day.

We found a friendly cafe with adjoining restaurant for lunch overlooking the water.

It must be good as frequented by lots of locals.

Cream of vegetable soup, grilled sardines and lemon blamange. 15 euros for Menu del Dia.

And finishing the day - turning rather chilly, in fact - with a traditional hot chocolate and churros.

The green countryside in the fog looks super! Hope the weather settles down. If its too hot a kilt might be a nice cool option...if worn in the traditional manner.
