AUGUST 2016 : SPAIN : CAMINO FINISTERRE : DAY 5 : Finisterre - Lires - 15 kms - 4 hours

Distance walked so far : 105 kms

Another beautiful day's walk. Perfect for Mark, who walked the full 15kms. Fortunately it was on side roads and soft tracks. We are loving being close to the coast.

Last night most of the albergue walked up to the lighthouse to experience the sunset at 10 pm. We weren't so keen to return in the dark, so did an earlier walk. To compensate, this morning's sunrise (effected by yesterday's fires) was stunning. This was the actual colour.

So many beautiful scenes.

The large, loud seagulls were unaware of the surrounding beauty and were attacking copious amounts of jellyfish or squid.

Off north to Muxia. The waymarking was excellent.

The waymarking gave directions to Muxia and Finisterre. Walkers were travelling both ways.

Leaving Finisterrre.

First bar stop. Complimentary potato tortillas.

Pine and Eucalypt fire trails.

A rest point..with a dog waiting to greet one and all.

A donkey and another puppy..all ready for action. Hilarious. I think the donkey lived inside the cottage.

First view of the ocean.

Horreos overlooking a cove.

Long and not-so winding road..

Lots of shade..

Arriving in Lires.

The church..and then our Casa Rural, called Casa Raúl. The home of our very friendly and chatty host.

Beautiful room. Our only option in this town tonight. 60 euros. Unfortunately Casa Jesus up the road (with a pool!) was booked out.

Attractive bathroom with full disabled fittings.. Must have known Mark was coming!

Only cafe or restaurant at the top of the hill...long climb in the heat.

Simple nourishing lunch.

I walked down to the beach past the thriving fish farm.

What Spanish beach would be without a tapas bar?

Clean, cold and gentle surf at low tide. Lovely to walk along and see the locals, young and old, enjoying such a pleasant area.

Hoping to get lots of beach time in the next week..a short walk to Muxia tomorrow. The weather forecast is for extreme temperatures in the next few days.

Great to see you are both managing to enjoy yourselves despite Mark's restricted mobility. Hats off to both for soldiering on. The coast is beautiful, the white sand and clear water very inviting. Hope your knee improves Mark......JulieJ
