AUGUST 2016 : SPAIN : CAMINO FINISTERRE : DAY 2 : Negreira - A Picota - 30 kms - 9 hours

Distance walked : 51 kms

A gorgeous day's walk today. Sunny, low 20s and a breeze. My only negative was that I'd booked accommodation to offset a big day tomorrow and inadvertently made today a big one. This was made a little easier as Mark walked the last 10 kms with me.

Leaving Negreira, passing the medieval Pazo de Cotón.

Lots of early activity in the fields today. Elderly farmers busy and extremely active.

Climbing higher and looking back over Negreira.

Bush tracks.

Some inventive baggage transport..

Plenty of cafes.

This one had delicious homemade apple cake.

Today I walked with Anna, who is a student from the village of San Jacob, in the German- speaking section in northern Italy.

More activity in the fields - my favourite subject today.

Small villages.

I met Mark in the village of San Marina, to where he had taken a taxi.

Some walkers stopped at this 20 km point but I had opted to walk another 10 kms to A Picota.

It was all on bitumen. Good for Mark as it was a flat and reliable surface.

Counting down the kilometres...

Our first water views from Monte Aro.

We arrived in A Picota about 5.15pm only to discover there was no booking and the hotel was full. They had thought it was for last week - so much for my eloquent Spanish. As luck would have it, the local hairdresser has started a boutique albergue. We have a full dormitory, bathroom and terrace for 40 euros.

Our spacious room.

Dinner (9 euros for 3 courses) at the local bar, which overlooks the albergue. Dinner with an Irish barrister on a few day's holiday. Olympic swimming on the TV - few wins for Spain, Australia and Ireland.

So pleased to arrive in A Picota without injury. Another big day tomorrow.
