DAY 8 : FRANCE : SAINT-CHELY-D'AUBRAC to SAINT-COME-d'OLT - 16 kms - 5 hours

Distance walked so far : 149 kms

Weather today : hot : 29o

Today's journey - east to west - right to left

We expected that our walk today would be mainly descent but we had some reasonable climbs in increasingly warm weather. We walked along shady paths with spectacular views of the Lot Valley.

Leaving St -Chely-d'Aubrac via the UNESCO listed bridge over the Boralde River.

View over the Lot Valley, up steep rocky paths

Some highlights were :

Local farmer and wife leaving coffee, biscuits, chocolate out for passing walkers

Welcome snack break by a stream

Lunch in a cafe high in the hills en route

Reaching our destination after a long, hot walk

Tonight we are staying in a communal gite in the centre of the medieval village of Saint-Come-d'Olt. It boasts a spiral bell-tower, fortified gates and private mansions, which are exquisitely maintained.

The medieval town of Saint-Come d'Olt

Carving on the doors of the sixteenth century church

Great historical towns and valley views. We have noticed the camaraderie shown in your photos with fellow walkers and locals. Perhaps the only way to have a genuine overseas journey is on foot!
