Breakfast in Aubrac prepared by Annie |
Today we walked with quite a number of pilgrims, chatting to various people along the way. We spent most of the day with a young lawyer, Alicia Sheridan, from Toowoomba, who has been working in London for 4 years. She has organised her walk with a company who has booked accommodation and carrying her bag. I’m still trying to downsize my pack and may borrow Julie’s lighter one, when they leave us next Friday.
Quite a different day’s walk today as we walk on the high level plateau on the western borders of the Lozere region. It was open country – not unlike the countryside around Cooma – with large boulders and ‘burons’ spread amongst the hills. These slate-roofed shepherd’s huts date back to the time when shepherds made and stored cheese.
Aubrac plateau |
It was hot walking but we found the little hamlets interesting, particularly if they provided food and shade.
Aligot, local specialty, served with most meals |

Your journey looks to be going wonderfully Meg, I would love to do one of these walks one day! Really enjoying reading your blog :-)
Thanks for yet more photos! Very different to the English countryside. As you say, reminiscent of the Monaro region. Hope you do not walk around a corner to find a sign that says: CANBERRA 20km!
