DAY 14 : FRANCE : FIGEAC to LE PUY CLAVEL - 20 kms - 4 1/2 hours

Distance walked so far: 272.5 kms

Weather today : cool, clear and warming up in the afternoon : 26o

Leaving Figeac

Today we climbed out of Figeac and then walked on the road and sheltered pathways. We enjoyed a morning drink break in the small town of Faycelles, with its attractive houses overlooking the Lot Valley. In the hills there were some lovely holiday homes with pools and pretty gardens.

A lovely home in the small village of Faycelles

The only cafe/ shop/ bar in Faycelles. German couples
stripping to bras to continue walk. Not a style that I
think will catch on.

A caselle - traditional shepherds and farmers huts

Our accommodation tonight is in the small hamlet of Le Puy Clavel – modern holiday houses on large blocks, with no infrastructure. Our gite is eco-friendly, with dry pit toilets, well disguised in bathrooms – excellent facilities. It is dry, scrubby and stony land with 180o views to the south. They haven't had any effective rain since June. The gite has 8 rooms of 4 beds, attractive living and outside areas.

Tastefully furnished with views to the south

Many of the walkers are German and Austrian, so their English is very good, which helps with conversation. In fact, we sat with 5 young French women, who are all farmers' wives, from north of Reims. They have been walking the camino for a few years - a week or so at a time. They plan to finish in the jubilee year of 2021 when 25 July (St James' Day) is on a Sunday.

Our hosts - standing in for 5 days while the owners
were on holidays.
