AUGUST 2016 : SPAIN : CAMINO PRIMITIVO : DAY 10 : Lugo - Ferreira - 28 kms - 7 1/2 hrs

Distance walked : 184 kms

A relatively easy walk today in drizzly weather and mainly on flat roads and paths. The shorter (optional) old Roman route from San Romanda Retorta provided a more challenging end to the day.

Following the Roman path through Lugo.

Leaving through the traditional Puerta de Santiago near the cathedral. One of the many gates in the Roman wall.

Down the hill on the Rua de Santiago.

             Crossing the Rio Miño.

A memorial to a pilgrim, hope he didn't die on this stretch.

           Easy walking..

A new sign.. I assume it's 'Beware of the electric fence'

Few significant churches.. this was more significant as it was next to an open bar.

          Delicious potato tortilla and coffee.

          Ripening figs..

Only 2 1/2 hours to go.

Off the road..on to a shaded path

                                                    Traditional horreos for grain storage

            Green and pleasant...

           Putting myself in the picture.

            Happy sheep...

            Welcome bar in San Roman.

             Up a stony road...

            Of course...the corresponding descent

Following a group, which always gives you confidence when there aren't many signs.

Mark was waiting for me. The albergue we'd booked was another kilometre on. Mark managed with his pack to manoeuvre the path in record time...so that we could secure our beds. He has made such progress In such a short time and after suffering such pain. Yeah!

Private albergue in Ferriera. 10 euros per person. Community meal 10 euros and 3.50 euros for breakfast. Great atmosphere and very friendly.

Great catching up with Claire and Heather again.

Paella for dinner..

Great sharing with such an enthusiastic group.
