AUGUST 2015 : EASTERN EUROPE : European Peace Walk : Day 13 : Lenti, Hungary - Zasadbreg, Croatia (30 kms - 8 1/2 hours with stops)

Distance travelled : 298 kms

A few changes to our group from today.
We originally were 12. 2 decided to buy bikes and explore independently, 2 had foot complications and moved forward with assisted transport, 2 ( Liz and Maureen) leave us today, flying home to return to work and we have a new member, Kumi, from South Carolina who has skipped a few stages to be with a larger group. So now we are 7. Meg, Mark, Ros, Thelma, Jason, Emma and Kumi.

We leave our comfortable hotel accommodation in Lenti, Hungary.

We leave Hungary walking in farmland and forests.

             Past the beautiful lake, Lendvadedes.

We climb up a hill, one of our firsts - good stretch for our quads.

Suddenly we are on a ridge with spectacular views of Slovenia. We cross the border.

Some activity in the little farms and vineyards.

Very creative thatched hotel and restaurant.

We head down into the valley.

The very attractive Slovenian town of Lendava.

                                                  (King) St Stephen

Coffee and ice cream before we head off again.

A quick trip to the Bankomat for euros. We need kuna in Croatia, so that will require another
transaction in Croatia.

An unusual drainpipe catches our attention.

Brief look back at where we have come this morning.

We carefully navigated our exit to the town and were back skirting fields along the highway.

An angry beehive, particularly attracted to me. Terrifying.

Border crossing. We had to have our passports stamped as we moved from Slovenia into Croatia.

Lunch stop in Mursko Sredisce at the only cafe that served food. Many there but only provided
drinks. Here we farewelled Liz and Maureen who will fly out of Zagreb.

Still another 10 kms to go! Luckily another cool day but still taxing on the feet.

Our last waymarker as we entered the small hamlet of Zasadbreg.

Our accommodation tonight is in an adventure park. Another immaculate venue.

Any choice of activity, including climbing wall, paintballing.

As well as comfortable meeting areas.

We are all in a large tent.

Towels, showers, washing. Perfect. 13 euros each.

Our attentive host, Vanya, who provided a delicious meal of barbecued skewers, sausages and schnitzel and salads.
