JULY 2008 : ITALY : Memories of the Via Francigena : Lucca - Ponte a Cappiano - 28kms - San Miniato - 19.5 kms

Memories of the Via Francigena July 2008

“Yesterday we walked the 28kms from Lucca through unremarkable (but flat) road and countryside. Ripe blackberries provided a welcome distraction from the increasing heat and sore feet.

Leaving La Torre B&B Lucca

Some medical attention

We arrived in Ponte de Cappiano about 4.30 and spent the night in a building over a bridge, designed by the Medicis..our own Ponte Vecchio.

We decided today to spend the day in Florence for a rest day. Tourists galore so we are taking it easy and enjoying all the public art and gardens. Tomorrow on the road again.

Our day in Florence - a short train return trip

We are staying in a hospital chapel tonight in San Minialto run by Misicordiae Hospital, recommended in our guide book.Novel and free.

Dinner at a local trattoria

We have walked about 240 kms, combined with several days’ public transport so far.”
