JUNE 2023 : DAY 9 : MENORCA : Cala Mitjaneta - Son Bou : 17.3 kms

Cala Mitjaneta - Son Bou : 18kms
Stages 14 & 15

James and Mark dropped me at the beginning of the walk at 8.30am.

Flat forest paths, farmland (including rock- hopping across a stream). Lots of shade.

Then sandy coastal tracks, long stretches of (nudist) beaches, then paved paths around the tourist town of San Tomas

My cycling companions today. We played catch up after they stopped for snacks and lunches, and then passed me again.

Moving on from San Tomas into farms, where thoroughbred horses are bred for the July San Joan festival held in Ciutadella.

A rather wet and  boggy section which held up cyclists as they tried to negotiate the path.

First glimpse of Son Bou - another large tourist area. I completed the walk about 1.20pm so time for a cold drink before my pick up at 2pm.

A very satisfying week’s exercise!

A 20 minute drive to Mahón. We have a lovely spacious room on the 5th floor of the Artiem Capri Hotel. A quick walk into the centre for a light lunch.

At about 5pm there were rumblings in the street below. A local festival - large puppets, a brass band and a very excited crowd following them. Many residents, like us, viewed the spectacle from their apartments.

Dinner at the old fish markets, which is now a tapas extravaganza. Every tapas combination imaginable. Certainly, a popular venue for locals and tourists alike.
Great for us tonight as we only wanted something light.

We are so pleased that this historic walk, Cami de Cavalls, brought us to Menorca - totally unknown to us before this.
Definitely worth a visit!
A very unpretentious island quietly proud of all their produce (cheeses, wine, gin, meats) and their fabulous coastline.
Off to Sardinia tomorrow.

Another stunning walk. Reasonable distances. Well done Meg and well decided Mark. Loved it all.
