JUNE 2023 : DAY 4 : MENORCA : Cap de Cavalleria - Cap Pilar : 15 kms

Today it was Cap de Cavalleria to Cap Pilar

Very tranquil on the harbour this morning 

Early breakfast so that we could leave early to avoid the heat

We could take some of the delicious bread and fillings for our lunches

8am pick up. A drive along minor roads lined with stone walls - lots of cows and cheese factories.

It became hot quite early so I suggested a swim to cool Mark down, as he was feeling stressed.

After a few steep ascents and descents on scree-ridden sections, Mark said, in his very polite manner, “I’m not enjoying this one bit”, feeling the heat and pressure on his knees.

And with that, he found a farmer in a neighbouring field and asked for help to find a taxi.

I continued on the trail and Mark had a wonderful experience with the farmer and his wife, who brought Mark back to the hotel when she had school pickup.

This is an Austrian couple, Max and Úrsula, who we’ve shared transport.

My final destination was the remote beach of Cap Pilar. Very popular despite having to walk about 30 mins from the car park

I arrived at the car park pick up point about 3.30. I was guided by directions on an app provided by our tour company, which you can use with voice activated directions. It rings an alarm if you go the wrong way. Impressive!

I was disappointed not to see the native tortoises mentioned on the information boards, only to find three pet tortoises in the hotel garden.

After a few hydrating drinks back in Fornells, we had an entertaining meal at Sa Xerxa - baked sea bream, lamb chops and exquisite vegetables. Mahon cheesecake for dessert. The highlight was the table service by two young waiters from the south of Spain. Despite breaking wine glasses, leaving most of the bones in the fish after a showy presentation, they were an absolute delight - obviously new at this, early in the season.

Mark to rest tomorrow as I continue on. Lots for him  to see around Fornells and our next destination, Ciutadella.
