Reaching the first waymarker into Santiago

The first glimpse of the cathedral

Walking into the old town -
Celtic musicians busking

Meeting friends in the cathedral square

Presenting our credentiale with all
the stamps (tampons and sellos)
we have collected over our 71
days' journey.

Mark's Compostela - his certificate
acknowledging that he has walked
at least 100 kms.

Our hotel for 3 days

Our gorgeous room with linen, towels, bath,
shampoo, soap, TV - and free breakfast!

We have arrived on the most glorious day. We are delighted with our efforts! Others are continuing to Finnisterre (4 days) or to Porto (8 days) but Mark's knees and my faithful -exceedingly comfortable -workingman's boots are telling us it's time to finish. Mark will recover quickly but my boots are destined for the bin as they have begun to split after their 1800 kms ordeal! We have loved every minute, despite the challenging sections, and are now going to celebrate with friends before we disperse. Then on to Porto and Lisbon (by bus) for 10 days before we return home. (Please send advice on places to stay and things to see in Portugal..as it will be a new adventure for us.)

A night on the town in Santiago, organised
by Miriam and Jacquie.

An early birthday surprise..

and some unusual gifts...

Congratulations on your fantastic achievement. Hope your knees brush up well in a few days Mark. It's amazing to think that you've been blister free Meg. Glad the boots made the distance. Enjoy the finale.....JulieJ

Hooray!!!!! There have been times when our feet ached just reading your blog. Very well done.

Perhaps we can only suggest doing as little walking as possible in Portugal...time for that convertible hire car!

Hey Meg and Mark. I'm thrilled to see yesterday's blog and to see you both, as well as so many other familiar faces, celebrating your arrival in Santiago. Well done you guys, Le Puy to Santiago de Compostela is a real accomplishment. I'm pleased to have met you along the way and spent a few days in your company.
love from Ingrid
