Day 3 Sano Okreni to Kami Karka (2500) 5 hours climbing

Getting ready for our first day's climb

Day 3: Sano Okreni (1997m)to Kami Kharka
Woke to a fine morning with lots of interest from the village above us.

Sano Okreni. The last village of any size until over Tilman Pass. We camped below it and used their water supply.

Breakfast in the sunshine and off to an early start.

We began climbing immediately through sparse pine forests, with clear views of the terraced farms in the valleys below.

Our first stop was at a small chorten where Satish chatted to a local administrator, who said that the only recent trekking group was Canadian. They had passed through about a month ago but had returned unable to cross the Tilman Pass due to poor weather conditions. Small farming community, who grow potatoes and corn.

Potato crop. One of the few farms on the route

We continued up the mountainside until we reached a ridge, which we will now follow. Misty and foggy so no views. Pleasant walking through rhododendron groves. Lunch by an old mani wall in a large field. We are quite an entourage with our 35 porters and staff. Hot food at every meal, quite an achievement.

Drizzle and rain but our trusty umbrellas kept us dry and doubled as walking poles. Welcome views of  our campsite high on the ridge. Thunderstorms set in. Few hours resting, reading before hot coffee etc and then a 3 course meal at 6.30. Early night in snug tents and sleeping bags.
