MAY 2014 : NEPAL : DAY 2 : Kathmandu (1340m) to Sano Okreni (1800m)

Bus from Kathmandu to Chautara (4 hours)and walk to campsite at Sano Okreni ( nearly 2 hours)

Early start. Thunderstorms over night and heavy rain as we set off.

Bruce, Lorraine and Mark on our bus. The porters
travelled to the campsite yesterday to set up for us.

4 hour drive north-east of Kathmandu, mainly on tarred roads - some single lane as we began to climb and there was some negotiation with on-coming traffic. We stopped for a break at small town of Dolal Ghat. Famous for its freshwater fish and for cremation ghats on the river.

Early morning ritual outside shop in Dolal Ghat.

Brian, Bob, Mark and Bruce: Rest stop in Dolal Ghat

We passed through a larger town of Chautara and on to a lesser unmade track and some small villages - even having to clear the track by manually remove rocks to get the bus through.

This is a remote track and local villagers fascinated by foreigners' arrival.

Lot of interest by locals as we get off the bus and we set off.

                                       Off we go!

Large battalion of soldiers returning from Langtang duty on foot. Several days' walk.

Bruce captured this beautiful creature on the track.

Only short walk of an hour and a half and then the impressive view of blue tents high on a ridge at Sano Okreni. (1997m) 35 porters had set up camp and ready for our arrival. Just beautiful.

Unfortunately slight rain and fog so the full view illusive. Hopes for a clear morning.
Afternoon coffee and delicious meal.

Satish, our guide, introduced us to the 30 odd staff accompanying us on our trek.

Happy campers, one and all.
