We were greeted at the airport by Satish, our guide and director of Nireka Adventures. We had an organisation day where We checked all the gear we had brought and were issued with some special down jackets, down sleeping bags, harnesses and plastic boots for difficult sections of the trek.
We are staying at the Radisson, convenient and comfortable.

Lunch at the wonderful Fire and Ice Restaurant where Bob, Lorraine and Bruce ran into a friend who had been to Antarctica with them, Julie Malouf.
A chance encounter : Bob with Julie Malouf
We wandered around the Thamel tourist district, passing an anti - government demonstration and soaking up the atmosphere of a busy Asian city. Thunder showers in the afternoon were a little unsettling as we plan to set off tomorrow. We are hoping this is not a sign of an early monsoon.
We enjoyed a meal together at the Radisson, where we are staying, and are looking forward to sharing the trek over the next 19 days.
