MAY 2014 : NEPAL : DAY 11 : Intermediate Camp (4200m) - Tin Pokhari (4255m)

Day 11  : Intermediate Camp (4200m) to Tin Pokhari (4255m)

Straight up the hillside behind camp with Satish and Lakpa forging a trail.

Fine morning to start off today. Satish has upped the anti with advice (rest, hydration and keeping warm as we gain altitude) and with the daily programme. Longer treks and more strenuous. We began this morning at 7.30 and it was straight up the mountain behind our camp. Always worth it as the view at the summit was breathtaking.

Lots of snow. It didn't take long for us to realise that the only way down the steep incline was through the snow. Again all of the guides situated themselves strategically to help the more vulnerable among us. We crossed mossy plains, ascended mountains on narrow tracks and had a hot lunch in a valley, as snow began to fall.

After lunch we had another treacherous climb (for Mark and me anyway) up a snowy slope - slip- sliding away. At the top Satish organised crampons for Mark, Lorraine and myself as the other side promised to be just as dangerous. Of course, for Bob, Bruce and Brian this was not difficult and just added to the adventure. Pasang and Lakpa quickly organised a climbing rope for our descent as well. Fabulous views, despite failing visibility, to the lakes that make up Tin Pokhari. Bit of an obstacle course to the campsite over rocks, slushy snow, tree roots etc, chilling with heavier falling snow.
All tucked up in our tents this afternoon. No chance of drying all our sodden clothes. More adventure with an even longer day tomorrow.

We are all freezing and are trying to keep in tiptop condition for the Pass. We are monitoring any symptoms of altitude sickness. We are sleeping and eating well. A few people have  colds which Satish is taking very seriously.
