DAY 9 : NEPAL : Bihi Phedi (1980m) - Namrung (2360m) - 6 hour walk

Our destination today was Namrung (2360m).

Another beautiful morning with views of Ganesh Himal range.

Glenis' friend knitted some jumpers for her to give to needy children. She gave the owner of the teahouse and campsite this red one for her little daughter. She was delighted.

Another exciting suspension bridge over the Bodhi Ganaki River.

More mule trains scaling rocky pathways. Many have come to work the trails on the Manaslu region because road transport has now surpassed them on other routes, like the Annapurna.

Women in traditional Tibetan dress working in the fields.

A Tibetan Buddhist chorten to welcome us into Ghap.

Highly decorated roof of the chorten. I like the Buddhist fables represented but Mark is becoming rather partial to the Tantric (R rated) positions in some more dubious chortens.

More friendly faces on the path.

A waterfall - powered mill for grinding rice, corn and wheat.

Each family uses the small mill - first toasting the grain.

Then it is fed into a conical container for grinding.

Dramatic rock formations over river near Ghap.

Rest with porters before we all climbed another rocky incline. Satish provides all meals, accommodation and clothing for his staff, which many companies don't. He expects a very high standard of service from them in turn.

Unexpected monkeys in trees above us.

The inevitable steep climb with a change of vegetation, including rhododendrons.

Mark captured this native bird - Scarlet Minaret.

We arrived at the village of Namrung.

Our campsite a grassy flat space adjoining a teahouse.

Khem in the adjoining hut sets us his kitchen. He cooks 3 hot meals (at least 2 courses!) for us a day - and dhal bhat for the staff.

Kharna with all the provisions at the ready. Satish makes a point of buying local produce from the villages where we camp to support struggling businesses and provide fresher meals.
