DAY 19 : NEPAL : Danaqu (2200m) - Chame (2670m) - 6 hour walk

Our destination today was Chame.

Breakfast in the sun at the Motherland tea house.

Small temple on the way out of the town. Just love the attention to detail in these small shrines - beautifully painted Buddhas in various poses in bright luscious colours.

Leaving Danaq. This little tourist village increased in size after a huge landslide demolished the village of Bargarchap in November 1995, a few kilometres away.

Walked up the road - steep cliffs on all sides - amazing waterfalls along the route. It's not surprising that hydro power is the way for these towns to go for future electrical power.

We walked through maple, oak, rhododendrons, and apple orchards.

We walked through small villages - here are some ponies used for private transport.

We stopped in the village of Tanchok and here is the immaculate kitchen of the tea house.

Walking into Chame. This is the district headquarters of the Manang Valley It had several supermarkets and stores, a gaol, hospital and large school.

An archery festival - much excitement with drumming and singing and drama.

Our tea house was over the river. It is a dusty, windy valley and it has become quite cold so Satish has opted to stay in tea houses rather than camp. He negotiates with the owners that Khem cook all our meals, so a room is allocated for the kitchen staff for their 2 kerosene cookers and all their equipment.
