SEPTEMBER 2015 : FRANCE : Nice : Day 1

Out of our B&B at 5.30am and found a cafe open next door, which has an arrangement for breakfast for B&B clientele. The bus station was across the road and we were able to catch the first airport bus, arriving in Naples just in time to catch our 9am flight to Nice. We have caught 5 internal flights since our arrival at the end of June with various budget airlines and excellent service and all on time.

We arrived in Nice at 10.30am and were able to get a local bus to the train station near to our hotel.

Immediately we were impressed with the Mediterranean architecture and colours of the city. Set off by the beautiful coastline.

Place Massena linking the new and old sections of the city with a huge pedestrian plaza.

Fountains and mist sculpture.

Shopping frenzy at the end of the sale season.

Sumptuous stores. This one specialised in preserved fruits.

  Fabrics of Provence.

The flower market in the old town, part of the Cours Selaya Market.

Through the archway and you enter Promenade des Anglais, which commemorates when the English made their Grand Tours and began holidaying along this coast in the late 18th century.

Modern sculptures along the shore.

A warm day perfect for swimming. Rocky shore but not a deterrent for swimming in the warm water.

City tours.

Lunch in a traditional cafe.

We are staying in the Hotel Durante for two nights. The walking tour company, Onfoot, recommended it as a convenient setting off point, as it is located near the station, for our journey to the start of our next walk, which we begin on Sunday.

One of the great hotels, Negresco.

The dome of the hotel was designed by Gustav Eiffel.

Dinner at a popular restaurant near the hotel, Voyage Nissart. 3 course meal for 16.95 euros. Great atmosphere and such a happy evening.
