JULY 2015 : SPAIN : El Camino del Norte : Day 15 : Unquera - Llanes (25 kms - 9 hours including breaks)

Distance walked so far : 319 kms
Distance to go : 493 kms

Another big day with varied paths - highway, coastal paths and some minor paths and roads.
A mild day but full sun in the morning but cloudy conditions in the afternoon, probably mid 20s

We left the hostal at 7 and luckily for us a local cafe was open for breakfast which we shared.

We crossed the bridge over the Rio Deva from Cantabria into The Asturias.

A surprisingly steep paved path into Colombres.

Very pastoral scene.

Gorgeous old palatial homes in Colombres.

Way marking now gorgeous tiles.

Paths led under monstrous motorways.

Suddenly we had views of the coast.

Rest point in Beulna Albergue. Excellent facility.

Across the road we joined the GR route along the coast.

Soft path with magnificent views.

In each bay was a fabulous beach and an impressive rock structure.

The path took us down through a camping area to La Paz, a safe swimming beach.

Many groups,walking.

Only shade provided was in eucalypt forests.

We enjoyed several breaks. One for lunch in a camping area bar and a drink with Marc, from Belgium, on our way into Llanes.

Interesting path into Llanes from the highway with no indication that it is a picturesque port.

We found our pension quickly as we walked into town. It is a two star. La Guia. 45 euros.

Absolutely perfect for our needs. Central with character.

Seafood meal with Julie and Bob and then traditional dessert - churros - deep fried sweet sticks dipped in thick hot chocolate.
Rest day to tomorrow after some gruelling days.

Always impressive how modern life goes on surrounded by wonderful historic architecture... and of course you are carrying on a very historic peregrinación tradition... Happy walking!
