JULY 2014 : IRELAND : Cleggan to Dingle

'

Today we headed south leaving Cleggan about 8 am and arrived in Dingle in County Kerry about 7.30.

Yesterday John went rabbit-shooting on Omey Island and came back empty-handed. This morning Mark awoke to see this hare hopping down the road in front of the house - escaping the hunter's gun.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in Cleggan, in this beautiful home.

DrivIng out of the area we were impressed by the fabulous scenery around Connemara.

We have been following the Wild Atlantic Route - a new tourist route around the Atlantic Coast

A delicious late breakfast in Kinvarra.

We stopped to explore the Cliffs of Mohr. Limestone cliffs that tower 210m from the sea.

There is a marked path, followed by thousands of tourists.

                                                      Spectacular view of fhe cliffs.

Some of the many tourists, transported by an Irish company bus...the irony lost on many of them.

From Killimer we caught a car ferry to a port north of Tralee.

Maugie suggested that we drive the  Wild Atlantic Route so that we could experience the Connor Pass   en route to Dingle. The Slieve Mish Mountains - another amazing surprise as we travel south - single laned highway with spectacular views. Put it on the itinerary.

Our accommodation for the next two nights is the Quayside B&B on the wharf in the picturesque town of Dingle in County Kerry. Our building is 150 years old and has lots of character.

We have lots of choice of restaurants and pubs for meals. Dingle is a tourist hub so there are lots of interesting cultural things to do  - Irish music in most pubs at night. It is an attractive village with lots to offer.

Great read particularly as we will be doing the Dingle to Galway route - and so pleased that we can do a coast road rather than going too far inland. Can you pls email details when you get a mo. Love the pics and tales. K8
