JUNE 2023 : DAY 10 : SARDINIA : Alghero

We really enjoyed this room at the Artiem Capri in Mahon in Menorca. Views across the town, quiet because of double glazed doors and the large balcony.

Chef on duty this morning with eggs of your choice.

Two short Vueling flights today. Plain and simple.
10.30am to Barcelona
4.10pm to Cagliari, Sardinia
But it was not to be…

Unbeknownst to us Vueling had cancelled our flights and our tickets were null and void. We negotiated to get on the 10.30 flight to Barcelona as there were 2 spare seats and a very sympathetic Iberian supervisor.

Otherwise we would have had to stay in Mahon until Tuesday.
Then I began searching options and found another flight to Alghero, in the north of Sardinia, with a connecting flight to Milan leaving at 3pm.
So today
3 flights (extra for luggage +€150 each flight)
2 bus trips
2 taxi rides
1 train to Cagliari
(1 forfeited hotel in Cagliari and 1 booked in Alghero for short overnight stay)

A few hours at the fabulous Barcelona airport

Dinner at Milan Linate domestic airport

Successful (but expensive!) change of plans so that we arrive in Cagliari in time for our planned tour with Paola, our local guide (for the next 8 days) at 9.30am on Monday.
Can’t believe we pulled it off as I organised change of flights via Alghero (arrival 11.30pm) and accommodation for tonight literally walking on to an aircraft with my mobile’s battery running precariously low.
Another early start tomorrow with a 6.30am train to the capital, Cagliari.

We arrived in Alghero at midnight.  Then a taxi to a cheap hotel, Hotel Soleado, and straight to sleep!

The delights of travel. Well done on your changes and adaptability. Money always helps.
Let’s hope that the rest of the trip runs smoothly.

After such a good week it was so unfortunate about your flights. And very expensive. But you made your next tour which is the important part. Very enterprising solution.
