Cala Morell - Cala de Blanes
Stages 9 and 10
Pick up at 8am and dropped off where I finished yesterday at Cala Morell
A walk down the hill with views of the cove, local houses and a limestone cave system.
From the start today it was like a moonscape. Apparently, the north of the island is much older geologically than the south, so we will experience a different landscape in the last few days.
Flat, rocky and with dense scrub for much of the way. A few sets of walkers sped by.
Rocks are put to good use for the stone walls and animal shelters. Hard to believe on a calm day like today but the northern winter wind (the Tramuntana) causes such havoc that at least, cows are protected from the elements.
Punta Nati lighthouse
Some action on the water
Despite the lack of soil there was a range of plants thriving in the rocks.
For the last section I was joined by a group of friends who wanted to chat, practising their English and willing to help me with my Spanish.
Antonio and his girlfriend were from AndalucĂa with friends from Barcelona.
Pont d’en Gil - a very popular landmark near Cala de Blanes
Cala de Blanes with supermarkets and a bus stop, so I could be easily transported back to Ciutadella. I was able to catch the 1pm bus for €1.70.
Tapas lunch - Spanish tortilla and Ensalada Rusa
Photos from Mark’s wander around Ciutadella this morning
Back to the port for dinner
Pork fillet with Menorcan cheese sauce
