SEPTEMBER 2022 : SPAIN : Zaragoza

Breakfast at a friendly, convenient cafe downstairs.

Early morning walk to find the Municipal Market, designed in the early 1900s.
Lots of dried cod, hard white cheeses, offal, including sheep’s heads, pig’s snouts ..as well as the normal range of delicacies.

A minor church in a little plaza

A tribute to the workers who set out from the city gates to work in the fields

11th century La AljaferĂa replete with moat. Memories of a Moor stronghold in this area.
From 1492 the palace was used by the Catholic Church.
Just €1 each as we are over 65!

Evidence of a Roman Forum excavated in the city centre dated to 14 BC, when the  city of Zaragoza, Caesaraugustas, was originally founded.

Mid-morning snack - potato and chicken empanadilla and iced tea.

Plaza del Pilar
A large area housing the cathedral, government offices and hotels. Fabulous space for concerts and festivals.

Lunch nearby

After a siesta watching the funeral procession of Isabella 11 (and her successor Carlos 111) from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, we went for a walk about 6.30 joining the masses out for their evening stroll. We walked along the river (Ebro) and then lost ourselves wandering through neighbourhoods trying to find the Centre…which we did eventually after a very interesting time.
Simple meal in the apartment after such a filling lunch.

Great looking food. Hope Mark's knee is holding up better now there's no steep rocky climbs and descents.
