We took the advice of the hotel reception and did our own walking tour today. First stop, the municipal market - one of the largest in Europe.
Lots of photo opportunities! The group shot is a crazy group of friends celebrating a couples engagement - the fiancée was dressed as a tomato.
A Mass was being celebrated in the main cathedral St Mary’s. Consecrated in 1262. There was plenty to see in the precinct and Plaza de la Reina.
A few streets away is the beautiful chapel of St Nicolas de Barre (St Nick) with its extraordinary baroque frescoes.
The two towers on the periphery of the city - Torre de Serranos and Torre de Quart. They were used to store famous artworks during the Spanish Civil War and used as military headquarters from 1936-9.
Steep climb for great views of the city.
Lots of restaurants booked out but we found the perfect place in a breezeway near the markets for lunch. Grilled fish and roasted pork cheeks.

And pistachio ice cream for dessert.
We are in heaven. Such a lovely city to walk around. Balmy nights (26o at 9 pm) for eating outside. Lots of variety. Safe and fascinating. Every Spanish girl/woman is a fashionista!
Such beauty!
