JULY 2019 : GREECE : DAY 8 : Sweet Water to Sfakia swim : 3.5km

Another beautiful morning in Loutro

Our briefing

Our mission today : Sweet Water to Sfakia : 3.5 kms

Sweet Water - an isolated beach with umbrellas and a cantina

Pink and orange caps off-loaded from boat

Water quality and temperature perfect - 26oC

Quite a swell so we swam into a small beach on the way to Sfakia

Triumphantly arriving at the beach - nearly impossible to get out of the water with the sharp stones

Just before entering the port we climbed onto our support craft

Looking back at the fabulous water colours

The memorial to the Battle of Crete and the nations that supported them. Sfakia was important historic site as it was from here that the Allied Forces were evacuated by submarine in 1941.

This is the Greek Orthodox priest who co-ordinated the evacuation

Lunch in Sfakia

Our guides - Sían and Pip

A special massage

Rain and high swell

Waiting at the dock for our return journey

Storm clouds gathering

A freak accident as one of our group disembarked, scraping her leg badly, despite every care taken for our safety. Our boat took her immediately to the hospital in Sfakia.

Meanwhile the sun came out and the seas calmed enough around our port for a short swim and training session

Pip co-ordinated the session from a kayak.

A group dinner at Pavros Restaurant - spit roasts their specialty
