JULY 2019 : GREECE : DAY 6 : Loutro

Breakfast on the hotel balcony

Our boat arrives

Ready for our first swim

The Pink Ladies team -  Carolyn, Marie and me

Our swim this morning was from Loutro to Sweetwater Beach - 3 kms. We will be swimming sections of this coastline all week.

We swam in our colour groups supported by our guides in small runabouts. The water is a very pleasant 26oC but there are pockets of cold water which are natural springs,  fed from snow high in the surrounding White Mountains and which seep through the veins in the rock.

After our swim we were given the choice of returning by boat or walking the 4kms back to Loutro. 8 of us chose to walk. It was a steep narrow goat track from Sweetwater.

In fact, quite a few goats munching the prickly offerings along the route

The bell of a small chapel/ shine

Steep and rocky

Loutro revealed

After lunch in a local cafe we met at 3.30 for a swim assessment and a 1 3/4km swim around and across the port

And  a lap around the island

Afternoon snacks on completion of our mini marathon

This afternoon’s participants. Everything is optional.

At about 7 we met to look at the swimming assessment videos to review and improve our performance

An opportunistic pigeon on the path as entered our chosen restaurant. Not much bird life, not even seagulls... but there is much chirping of cicadas in any tree they can find, which are rare on these barren slopes.

Emmanuel and Julia joined me for dinner at the Blue House Cafe. So good I think it might become my local. We are all tired but content after a busy day of exercise.
