JULY 2019 : GREECE : DAY 9 : Swims between Sfakia and Francokastello : 3 kms and 1.5 kms

Sunrise

The hotel cat napping in the early morning light

Our briefing at 9.15

Down to the wharf below the hotel to meet our boat

Our swims today were on the coast east of Sfakia

This part of the coast is full of caves and interesting rock formations

Our first swim of about 3kms followed the coast with large caves and small beaches breaking our journey

The water quality was exceptional

Changing to a lighter green closer to shore

We swam to the boat as Koutelo Beach, our destination, which had a treacherous rocky entrance.

Finding a safe channel we all swam to shore

Relaxation time - some retreated to deck chairs

A special lunch was provided by Swimtrek

The chef and owner of the Koutelo Taverna

Our very appreciative group

After an appropriate rest we swam back to our boat

Our afternoon swim, only 1.5 kms, was from a point out to sea and swimming directly to shore with this little hut as our focus. The sea was a deep blue with shards of light shining through. Just beautiful.

We returned to our port about 6. Before dinner a few of us walked up to the little fort or kastello, for a drink in a small taverna.

The view of Loutro from the fort. Notice the turquoise colour of the water. Crystal clear and calm today.

Feeling rather weary, a few of us opted for a pasta meal at our hotel.

Full moon
