Leaving Chania. A five hour combined flight to Copenhagen. Exit seats all the way and some interesting chatty company.
Flying across the coast into Copenhagen
The famous bridge between Denmark and Sweden
At the airport two young girls gave us their transport passes as they were flying out of Denmark. They recommended the train which left from the airport and brought us to our hotel precinct. The railway station was full of character with wooden beams and stained glass windows.
The city is full of the usual takeaway outlets but this cafe had a bit more character.
We are staying in the Vesterbro district
Our upmarket hostel, Urban House.. We have a quiet en-suite room on the fifth floor.
Self-service check-in, a bar and restaurant, laundry and kitchen facilities. $108 per night.
We had a wander around the area. It was quite chilly. Lots of people out and about. Only just getting dark at 10pm.
The colourful Tivoli Amusement Park
City hall
A monument to Hans Christian Anderson, the legendary storyteller
Some colour and design in the local shops
A lovely twilight walk.
Mark’s bag wasn’t on our flight. The airline notified us immediately, so hopefully it will be delivered soon. Our Danish friends have been in contact and we may see some of them as early as tomorrow. Some plan to come for a few days with us when we walk on the island of Møn, later in the week. They did offer us a 28 km walk on Tuesday in the forest south of Copenhagen, but we fear it would be a little fast for us and we are looking forward to further exploring the city.
We have worked out that it is 5 kroner to the A$ and have been warned how expensive food is but there seems to be lots of supermarkets and takeaway, even sushi, if all else fails.
Tomorrow an introductory walking tour...
