JUNE 2019 : KIMBERLEY, WA : GIBB RIVER ROAD : DAY 5 : Manning Gorge and Galvan’s Gorge

Luke had a special surprise for us this morning. We were up before dawn, given a prepared toasted sandwich for breakfast, and then marched down to the river in our swimming togs.

The only way across the river is by boat or if you have a large crowd, to swim across. We were surprised that the water temperature was warmer than the air.

The Manning River looked stunning in the early morning light

We set off on our 3 hour return walk

Lots of Bachelor’s Buttons

Luke gave us a guided commentary as we walked

Climbing into Manning Gorge

The walls were illuminated by the morning sun

Far above the waterfall we spied a Euro

On our return a swim across the Manning River to Barnett Station campsite

After lunch we drove about 20 minutes to Galvans Gorge.

A short walk to several water lily ponds and the small gorge

Green ants. Their abdomens are edible and have a citrus flavour

A butcher bird searching for insects

Fires are left to burn throughout the dry season, unless property is threatened. It clears the spinifex and helps germinate seeds and regrowth.
